Remember the most amazing date you ever had? Where everything just clicked? You laughed, you ate, maybe you ran around acting a little silly because you just felt so FREE with that person?
Remember sitting with that person, just knowing that it was true love? Remember looking into their eyes and thinking that this must be what heaven is?
I had the best date night with Monster this weekend. (That’s not to say I haven’t had wonderful dates with David.)
On Friday, I loaded up the stroller, a bottle and plenty of snacks and headed to the mall to do some early Christmas shopping. Monster enjoyed browsing the children’s clothing store looking for something for cousin Sophie (the girl stuff is just so much more colorful with so many textures!). He laughed as Momma tried on – and bought – new boots for herself.
Then we headed to the kids’ area, where dozens of little ones of all ages romp around a carpeted playground, complete with child-safe structures suitable for climbing *and falling*.
Monster squealed and clapped his hands as the big kids ran circles around him. He loved crawling through the tunnel to meet Momma on the other side.
Then we went to dinner. By the time we were seated and I had ordered, Monster was getting a little fussy in his stroller. I put him in my lap and bounced him as I fed him pieces of vegetables and salmon.
Then … in a series … of very … slow … blinks … Monster bounced himself … off … to … sleep.
And there he slept, curled up in my lap (see above picture I tried to take). I kicked my feet upon the chair next to me and enjoyed an entire glass of wine – uninterrupted.
It. Was. Glorious.
I remember thinking that there was nowhere in the world I’d rather be than right there, in that moment, listening to the murmur of gentle conversation around us, wrapping my free arm around my precious, sleeping son.
In other news … Monster fell at daycare AGAIN. The teacher told me they were headed to play outside and Monster ran to the front of the group, yelling with excitement, ready for the great outdoors when BAM – he went down. Can’t you just picture it? Poor little guy – they said he whimpered a little then proceeded to chase his classmates like nothing happened.
This time he escaped with just scrapes (see other picture above). Though I must say, the scrapes look even worse than the cut that landed us in the ER.
